Stress and weight gain...How are they related?

Stress and weight gain: You've gained weight? You way be stressed out. Find out if stress weight gain applies to you.

You see, weight gain has a lot to do with your metabolism. Do you know what that is? Why is it important? Well...

Why Metabolism is Important:

When it comes to stress weight gain, metabolism is an active factor. Metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns fat. The lower your metabolism, the more prone you are to gaining more weight.

When you are under stress, cortisol,a stress hormone, gets activated. When you are stressed, more and more of this hormone gets activated.

So, what's the problem, you may ask? Well, too much cortisol in your body can decrease your metabolism, thus making weight gain easier. In fact, there's a double effect on having too much cortisol. Cortisol usually causes you to start craving for unhealthy food.

Usually, when you're stressed, you tend to grab fatty and sugary foods. You're not to blame; it's just a natural human tendency. And of course, unhealthy food and a trim waistline do NOT go together!
