Hey, I've found this technique very helpful whenever I use it. So let's get started!

Well what is a "getaway" place?

Simple. Any place that doesn't remind you of your stress. Any place makes you feel comfortable. Like....

Let's say you love the balcony from your house. It gives you a really nice view, and just makes you feel good. That's your "getaway" place!

So, just any place that makes you feel happy. And also, try to keep the inside of your house out-of-bounds.

You know, a local park, your backyard, a balcony... any place with no distraction. Just think of a place; I'll wait for you here.

Great. Now, how do you spend your time in this "getaway" place?

Stress Relaxation Technique: It's "You" Time. Forget the World

Well, once you've found the right place for yourself, it's time to forget. Forget about everything. Your life, your job, your car, your bills - all the "stressy" things.

Then, just close your eyes and enjoy the isolation. Imagine that you're care-free, no deadlines, no bills, no stress. Just be alive. Acknowledge your surroundings, and try to appreciate the peaceful setting.

Wait. I know what you're thinking...

Forgetting about your stress isn't going to solve it, is it?

I like the way you think! Well, that's true. Forgetting the problem doesn't solve it. So how does this help?

Remember; this stress relaxation technique is a great starter. It's to "get the ball rolling". You see, once you forget about your stress, you're in a happy mood.

Why? Let's take your bed as an example...

The only reason you go to bed is to sleep, right? Right. So, when you lie down on your bed, you automatically feel sleepy, right?

That's the point! If you go to your "getaway" place only when you're stressed, you'll automatically feel in a happy and "ready to manage stress" mood.

Back to your bed...

What if you start eating dinner on your bed? The bed is now being used for two purposes. So that means it's not as effective in making you feel sleepy. Why?

It might make you feel hungry!
