Many ways to deal with stress...One "active" activity
Many ways to deal with stress: Learn how to deal with stress by getting on your feet - that's what today's stress management activity is all about Turn Off That TV!

What's our favorite activity or hobby? No, it's not reading, or cooking. It's television! Many of use are guilty of watching too much TV! How many times have you wished you watched less TV and did something else instead? Once, twice, thrice? Or is it just too much to count? How about when you're stressed? Do you watch more? I think I do. You see, that's the problem. When your mind is overwhelmed, it is natural for you not to feel like doing anything. So TV is your only choice. After all, all you do is press a button, and your mind drifts of stress. At least you think it does. Dull You Down... I remember when I had to catch up on a lot of work. I was stressed out to my limit! So, I thought I'd relax and watch TV the whole day, and catch up on the work tomorrow. Good idea, right? WRONG! After only four hours of having my eyes glues to the television, I felt like my brain turned to sludge! My head was throbbing with pain, and I became so dull that there was nothing else for me to do. My point? I became even more stressed out. Why? Because TV didn't relax me like a thought it would. So what does that mean for you? Go ahead and watch TV, but not when you feel stressed. It's only going to make things worse. What should you do instead? Other than explore different ways to deal with stress, you should be constructive. Do some housework. Some gardening, some lawn-moving, some planning- anything that helps you! Not only do these activities help you, it also helps you deal with stress, because you feel good about having "done" something. Try it. You'll feel relieved and satisfied, and you will be in a much better (stress free) mood to tackle the "stressful" things. So, should things like "housework" and "gardening" be including in your list of "ways to deal with stress"? Hey, if it makes you feel better, why not? What Do I Do? Cleaning your house and moving your lawn maybe good ideas, but what do I do? What activities are included in my little ways to deal with stress? I love working on this website. Adding more information on different tips, techniques and ways to deal with stress makes me satisfied. Wait, wouldn't that count as sitting around? Although I do "sit" when working on this website, it still makes me happy and satisfied when I'm done. So don't take it literally. The only reason I said sitting could be bad, is because most people watch TV, or overeat when they're sitting. That's all. If something makes you happy (and stress free, of course!), then by all means do it! What else do I enjoy doing? When I'm stressed, I
exercise.
Things like basketball, biking- that's on my list. Only the Good Ways to Deal With Stress Make You Feel Happy After You're Done! Let's look at TV again. It may make you feel happy and relaxed for now. But once you're done, all that is gone. Then, when you think about the "stressful" things again, you're back to being stressed. So cheap thrills like TV don't solve the problem, it just temporarily hides it. What does that mean for you? More Stress! As you can, when you're stressed out, all you have to do is do something useful. Something helpful. If it makes you happy, please do it. But remember; TV might make you happy for a while, but once you get off that couch, what have you really accomplished? Nothing. Now let's take a look at housework, again. Once you've finished, you still feel the happiness and satisfaction of having a clean house. And this means you're in a better mood. And a better mood means no more stress! Once you try it, you'll stick to it. It works. So, what makes "doing useful things" different from the other ways to deal with stress? You're about to find out... What Makes This Stress Management Activity Different? Okay. So doing these things I described earlier make you happy, and put you in a better mood. It also relieves stress. So what makes this different from the other stress relief activities that do the same things? If you do things like gardening instead of watching TV, you won't only satisfy and start enjoying yourself, but you'll enjoy life much better. The more you get involved in helping yourself, the more your body becomes "immune" to stress. Not only will you be able to deal with stress, but you'll also be able to prevent stress from ever corrupting you again. This may not make sense right now, but it will. The more you constantly "do" things, your confidence builds, your happiness builds, and you'll enjoy life without ever having to worry about "stress". Hey, it already seems like a foreign word doesn't it? "Stress". It will if you practice this technique along with the many others in this website. Moving On... So, that's another tip in the books. You are now better equipped to tackling that monster called stress. The more you equip yourself with helpful ways to deal with stress, the more chances you have for becoming stress free! That's why I encourage you to use this website to your advantage, and build an arsenal of ways to deal with stress. All it takes is your effort. After all, you have displayed good effort by taking the time to explore this website! So feel free to keep exploring and learning...
